This Wiki has the Skeirs font by Robert Pfeffer in-built, read the guide on how to use it on the main page.
BOT OWNERS
Nobody on this wiki has the ability to give a bot flag! There are no bureaucrats here. At most we can give you support for your bot flag.
We've got enough Interwiki bots to make our ears bleed, and only a few articles to actually use them on, but we will accept your bot, provided that it does not transform Gothic characters into XML entities. If it does and we catch it, we will ban the bot from edits. The issue with Interwiki links here is they really add so much markup that articles which are only a sentance long get displayed as the longest pages on the wiki, despite them not being that at all.
Installing the fonts
[πΉπ½πΌπ°πΉπ³π΄πΉ]Great, you have to download and install the fonts. I did so for two of the fonts ... and then what? I cannot see anything but empty rectangles, yet. I tried with Opera, Firefox and Maxthon (IE) - neither of them works (all have been restarted before trying).
So what exactly does one have to do to read these pages? Please write to nibble.of.byte at gmail dot com.
- In Windows 2000 / XP: Go to Start>Run, type regedit.exe, navigate to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\LanguagePack" right click in the right part of the window, New>DWORD (or similar). Name the DWORD "SURROGATE" (without the quotes) and double click it and enter 2 as new value. Restart Windows. If a Gothic font is installed, Gothic should now work for most applications (if Internet Explorer doesn't work, try Mozilla Firefox, that works for me). To test, try copying some gothic text to notepad and setting the font to a Gothic font.
- Hi I tried this and it doesn't work... any hints? (Running Windows XP) 198.54.202.242 12:51, 10 July 2005 (UTC) (Servien)

- In Linux, Surrogate Characters (used to write Gothic, 2 digital characters form one glyph) should work out of the box, and installing a Gothic font to ~/.fonts should do the trick, at least in GNOME / KDE distro's.
- In Mac OS X, Surrogate Characters should just work, after installing a Gothic font.
- In older versions of Windows, I have no idea, perhaps it is not possible because of bad Unicode support...
- HarΓ°or 12:05, 18 May 2005 (UTC)
- Thank you very much. I'm still unable to see Gothic, but now I know why: I am using Windows 98!
- --84.160.254.145 06:41, 21 May 2005 (UTC)
- Some people say they have made them work on Windows 9x [1]. I got a copy of the latest USP10.DLL and installed it but surrogates still don't work for me. It could be because other DLLs are required, recent DLL versions are flagged to disable the feature on Windows 9x, or the registry needs to be edited. It'd be helpful to see the discussion from the Unicode mailing list, but the archives are closed. G0th007
- They now (after installing the latest version of USP10.dll) work on my Windows 98 computer, but only in Wordpad.--84.160.216.231 14:44, 11 October 2005 (UTC)
- You're right, it works in Wordpad. This means somebody could make a browser plugin or Firefox extension to make surrogates work in Win9x if they could figure out what API issues are stopping them working with other programs. G0th007
Hello, I found a intermediate way to read the texts with firefoxΒ : instead of using UTF-8, I use ISO-8859-1 (Occidental). Numeral policy
[πΉπ½πΌπ°πΉπ³π΄πΉ]How should we handle numbers? At the moment, I use the Gothic glyphs representing the numbers (eg. π΄ = 5) but underlined and bold, like π΄ for 5 or 5th. What should be the policy for this? Roman, Western or Gothic numerals, and if Gothic numerals, how to put them apart from normal text to increase readability?
HarΓ°or 12:05, 18 May 2005 (UTC)
- Hails HarΓ°or,
- I think it is best to use Gothic numerals. I suggest using the Greek numeral sign after every single one. π΄ΚΉ for example is 5.
- Hails HarΓ°or jah "Anonymu",
- I think the best way to imitate the Gothic numeral system is to use Gothic glyphs underlined and with two numeral signs, as ΚΉπ΄ΚΉ.--Meljands 18:09, 21 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I don't know what you've been doing programming the gothic fonts. Further you don't seem to recognize gothic written diskussion (see "atta unsar - diskussion"). Fact is that your mutations cannot be seen in history by all users and that not only I but also other users mutating an article are not able to save the mutated text with the given script font - although it is correctly to be seen before saving. Gothic?
[πΉπ½πΌπ°πΉπ³π΄πΉ]Howcome nobody's conversing in Gothic here? I expected to fing a thriving community of fluent Gothic speakers here. Was this encyclopedia just set up because some goths thought it would be cool to have their own Wikipedia?
- There's isn't many people who knows Gothic here. I think we're 4 to speak a bit and editing more than one time, and only one of us four speaks Gothic enough to discuss in Gothic -- Sajasazi 11:58, 24 January 2006 (UTC)
Counting the articles
[πΉπ½πΌπ°πΉπ³π΄πΉ]Possibly, we should count a Gothic alphabet article and its Latin transliteration as one article, not two ones? The text in both of the articles is expected to be the same, only the alphabets used are different... Besides, I hope that Gothic Wikipedia will sooner or later get an automatic convertor from one graphic system to another (as in Chinese Wikipedia, where one can choose options for showing hieroglyphs either traditional or simplified), and in that case there will no longer be necessary to write separate articles in each of the alphabets. -- Alexander Gerashchenko 15:05, 15 February 2006 (UTC)
- I think there is no good reason to be writing separate articles for each of the alphabets or writing the same thing twice, especially as the two copies will never be in sync. It should be easy to have an automatic transliterator like with the Chinese Wikipedia's Traditional <---> Simplified system, but someone who knows how to and has the access has to do it has to be found. There must be a place on meta.wikipedia.org to ask for help with this one. Addendum - Gothic runes should be supported too though it appears one minor letter is missing from unicode. G0th007
- I'd suggest e-mailing the wikitech-l mailing list, which the developers frequent. βΒ Minh Nguyα» n / Nguyα» n XuΓ’n Minh 04:39, 24 April 2006 (UTC)

- Ok, have just seen this after I finished below.
- My suggestion was to add a tab β Gothic β that calls, if clicked, the whole page again preprocessed by an algorhitm that could look as follows:
latin->gothic (text) β text[char] c (c=('<','&')) β Β !convert (c=('>',';')) β convert { exclude HTML and &...;} ((convert) β§ ('a'β€cβ€'z' β¨ 'A'β€cβ€'Z')) β print('π°'-'a'+lowercase(c)) β print(c)
- I think this one should work fine.

I've never installed a language pack before.
[πΉπ½πΌπ°πΉπ³π΄πΉ]Q: I need clear, step by step instructions. I'm on windows xp.
A: Well I cant find any (WORKING) language pack for this if you find one you can just drag and drop the TTF/file in the in the font file in control panel (MOST OF THE TIME) some times its a lot harder for XP users you put the ZIPPED file in a new folder in C:(Folder Name Here) and extract the files in the folder keep the zip file and go in your fonts file click file in the upper left corner and click install new font file and when a pop up comes up look for the file you have your font/TTF/File in the C:Drive in the lower box you should see it in the upper box click on it and install it i should be working know if not find a simpler one to use or check if it has instructions.

Unicode again
[πΉπ½πΌπ°πΉπ³π΄πΉ]No idea if this is a known problem, but searching in gothic doesn't work properly. I wasn't able to find out about where there exists a certain Lemma. Searching for π³π°π½π°πΌπ°ππΊπ returns no matches.
I can't help noticing that most subjects discussed here are installing unicode fonts and keyboard layout. I also can picture that entering the gothic wikipedia and seeing "??????Β ???" in the first place would scare off most visitors. Wouldn't it be a better idea to have a latin version ("may be up to date") only while it is still half gothic half latin and let a script do conversions between latin and gothic for those who like it?

- If searching in Gothic script does not work: On my computer Gothic letters show as little boxes containing SIX (not 4) hexadecimal digits. That shows that Chinese characters have hogged so much room in the 2-byte Unicode character space of 65536 characters that Gothic and other less-used alphabets have been pushed into the 3-byte Unicode character space; and the searcher likely only works with 2-byte characters. Discarding the Gothic Alphabet?
[πΉπ½πΌπ°πΉπ³π΄πΉ]Should we not discard the gothic alphabet in order to increase the productivity on this Wikipedia? I find it kinda obstructive to read and complicated to write. The Anglo-Saxon Wikipedia is not written in runes either and flourushing!
- Actually, we're waiting for someone to make it possible to write either in gothic or latin alphabet. It only needs some time. And thanks to sign your messages. -- YadΓΆnapya 15:21, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
- It isn't actually that hard to read if you chose the right font. I actually like the alphabet, and it's easier for me to write things in the Gothic keymap. The only real issue I've found with it is that the computer treats one letter as two characters rather than one, and you have to double backspace to erase words.
- And Gothic isn't as popular as Anglo-Saxon nor as well reconstructed. There is a reason why we don't have a great flow of articles. Plus if you've ever used Rune fonts you'd see they display things terribly out of proportion, and it seems that most texts we've found are written in the Latin alphabet. --Jacques Pirat 01:58, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
- Anglo-Saxon not using Runic script? Think again...Β ;) By the way, I wanna see some articles written here! Dont just let this wiki sit stagnant. Perhaps a good page about WΕden is in order. β WΕdenhelm 04:48, 25 Aftuma Jiuleis 2009 (UTC)

I don't know whether it's a problem of my PC, but I have also problems to read the gothic alphabet used in this wikipedia. Letters like the "h" have no line in the middle and the letters that actually should have lines going under the baseline don't have those lines. The "a", the "r", the "th", the "g" etc. are not shown totally. The scripture has a lot of breaks in their lines, so the letters are hard to read and are not as clear as they should be. Association of the gothic language
[πΉπ½πΌπ°πΉπ³π΄πΉ]Hey there, I have founded a few weeks ago the association of the gothic language in Germany. Its german Name is: Verein der gotischen Sprache n. e. V. It's an association to talk about gothic, to help with its developpment in discovering and at least to create a somehow neo-gothic that is complete in its grammar, applyable to the modern time and that one is able to talk freely and without any problems in it. To be part of this association you don't have to do much, just send me an email, that you want to join. Since the domicile is in Germany and most of the administration is in german, it should be needy, that you know at least a bit of german. We also have a forum for discussion and the actual work and a blog for all the results. We are also at facebook unter the Name: Verein der gotischen Sprache n. e. V. We would be glad, if you join us. You don't have to pay anything to be a member in the association and you can cancel it at the end of every month. You don't have to do anything in the association if you don't want to. Maybe you just want to be a part of it. Our forum is to be find at: vdgs.forumieren.com Liufos goleineis, Zylbath 13:13, 17 π°ππ°π½πΌπ΄π½ππΈπ 2011 (UTC)

I do respect you for pretending it's a language when it's not, but unfortunately it's not a language so we can't develop a full blown encyclopedia or converse in what's actually several very divergent dialects, which is a shame, but a fact. --Node ue 01:17, 24 π·π°π

- Nds-nl is yet not a single language but still quite different to the rest of low german dialects. Even so are all west germanic languages not directly divided into single languages but into variations that work morely than dialects of a dialect kontinuum.
- Gadrauhts, you are right. Maybe I'm gonna work here a little bit as well, so that this side could be protected from closing. But I still have personal problems with the font because it doesn't really look adequate and not really beautiful. We should maybe search for another one?! Change the name of the gothic Wikipedia
[πΉπ½πΌπ°πΉπ³π΄πΉ]I must object to the choice of name of the wikipedia. Translitterated it is wikipedja and then for encyclopedia a word egkeiklopedja is used. First of all should it in my opinion be aigkeiklaupaidja in stead, and hence Wikipaidja in stead of Wikipedja. Secondly, I would strongly suggest another word for encyclopedia which is not a loanword. I do not have a great suggestion but something like "frodabokos" could be better. --Gadrauhts 21:00, 22 π°ππ°π½πΌπ΄π½ππΈπ 2011 (UTC)
- I will correct my previous suggestion. The word for encyclopedia should be "frodibokos". Since this is a word used in plural the sentence "the free encyclopedia" would be "Γos frijons frodibokos". Wikipedia would still become "Wikipaidja" with a more correct form. --Gadrauhts 16:56, 31 π°ππ°π½πΌπ΄π½ππΈπ 2011 (UTC)
- Sounds logical. Are you well versed with picture editing progammes, so that you could make a suggestion of it? We could send that to the admins, that they could upload that to the side, where such things get changed. Zylbath 17:02, 31 π°ππ°π½πΌπ΄π½ππΈπ 2011 (UTC)

- Hey, very interesting. Thank you. But could you turn the script into bold? And why are you using he form frodibokos instead of frodabokos as the gothic word list of the email list suggests? Zylbath 02:08, 27 πΎπΉπΏπ»π΄πΉπ 2011 (UTC)
- Yes I can change it to bold. But first we should agree if it is correct. I use frodibokos with i instead of frodabokos with a because I based this on the noun frodei wisdom. I suppose the form with -a- is based on the adjective froΓΎs wise. I think wisdom-book is better than wise-book. As far as I have found out, feminine in-stems get -i- as compound vowel. E.g. marei + kreitus > marikreitus. Gadrauhts 14:44, 2 π°πππΏπΌπ° πΎπΉπΏπ»π΄πΉπ 2012 (UTC)

Goal for got.wikipedia
[πΉπ½πΌπ°πΉπ³π΄πΉ]Should we put up some goals perhaps for the gothic wikipedia? At this momemt we've got 275 articles which makes us number 247 just after Ewe and befor Hausa. I would say we can reach at least 300 articles this year. That wouldn't make us pass number 245 (Min Dong) but maybe give us a chance to do that next year. Note! There is no purpose of its own to spit out articles. They should have substance and quality (rather quality than quantity). /Gadrauhts 15:35, 19 π°πΊππ°π½πΌπ΄π½ππΈπ 2011 (UTC)
- This goal seems possible. In the moment I have very much to do, but if that is going to be less, I can do more on this wikipedia. I think that we can reach the 300 mark at the end of the year.Β ;)

Deletion of articles
[πΉπ½πΌπ°πΉπ³π΄πΉ]How come the numbers of articles keep decreasing all the time? Some days ago there were 279 but now they are only 277. Does someone delete articles?? If so, which ones and why? Gadrauhts 08:39, 24 π°πΊππ°π½πΌπ΄π½ππΈπ 2011 (UTC)
- If someone would delete articles, that would be showed at the page "Aftumistos maideineis". Your problem is the cache of your browser. It saves the page for being possible to display it faster if you open it again. But then the number doesn't change or sometimes has a different number. You could either delete the cache or click Reload. If nothing helps click on Change at the haubidaseido and then just save. This won't be shown in the aftumistos maideineis but will reload your number of articles.Β ;) Liufos goleineis, Zylbath 16:06, 24 π°πΊππ°π½πΌπ΄π½ππΈπ 2011 (UTC)
Article titles
[πΉπ½πΌπ°πΉπ³π΄πΉ]We must agree on a standard for the titles of our articles. Shall they be written in gothic, latin or both alphabets? A lot are written gothic/latin but I prefer the system of only gothic. To make this work there should hence be created a site with the same title but written in latin which is redirected to the mainarticle. So if I write π πΉπΊπ in the search field I come to the mainarticle but if I write Wiko I get redirected to π πΉπΊπ. The system of π πΉπΊπ/Wiko should in my opinion not exist at all. / Gadrauhts 11:59, 5 π π΄πΉπ½πΌπ΄π½ππΈπ 2011 (UTC)
- I totally agree with you. This is why I already changed some. The gothic alphabet isn't the hardest and the language is Gothic here and it is written in Gothic, so the articles should be that way. So, if ever you get confronted with such sides, please change them. Liufos goleineis, Zylbath 14:56, 6 π π΄πΉπ½πΌπ΄π½ππΈπ 2011 (UTC)
- By the way, no article with such double names is directly foundable by typing in just one part, either the gothic or the latin writing. You always have to look at the related pages where it mostly stands, but that's no solution since this is not how wikipedia has to be. Liubos goleineis, Zylbath 15:02, 6 π π΄πΉπ½πΌπ΄π½ππΈπ 2011 (UTC)

How to type in Gothic with Linux (directly without needing websites or software)
[πΉπ½πΌπ°πΉπ³π΄πΉ]I decided to build a linux Gothic Keyboard Layout, here are instructions:
First you have to download ibus, once you have ibus, you can do the following:
Go to this link to download got and put it in a folder which you can remember:
http://roel.tengudev.com/Neo%20Gothic/download_keyboard_layout.php
Change got.txt to just got, remove .txt
Now follow these instructions:
1. Open a terminal window, log in as superuser. You can do this by typing: su Enter your password and you have privileges now. Type this command, in which [directory of downloaded file] is the folder in which the file is downloaded: cp [directory of downloaded file]/got /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/
Now it's added to your keyboard layout files.
3. keep your terminal window open and type: gedit /usr/share/X11/xkb/rules/evdev.xml
Search for </layout> and choose one, directly after this copy this textΒ :
<layout> <configItem> <name>got</name> <shortDescription>got</shortDescription> <description>Gothic</description> </configItem> </layout>
Save it.
4. type
gedit /usr/share/X11/xkb/rules/evdev.lst
Type search and look for German, use the space key and add this under German:
got Gothic
Save it.
5. type
gedit /usr/share/X11/xkb/rules/xorg.lst
Do exactly the same as in step 4.
6. type
gedit /usr/share/X11/xkb/rules/evdev.xml
Do exactly the same as in step 3.
7.type
gedit /usr/share/ibus/component/simple.xml
Search </engine> and directly after </engine> paste:
<engine> <name>xkb:got::got</name> <language>got</language> <license>GPL</license> <author>Roel</author> <layout>got</layout> <longname>Gothic</longname> <description>Gothic</description> <icon>ibus-keyboard</icon> <rank>99</rank> </engine>
8. type
gedit /usr/share/X11/xkb/rules/base.xml
Search for: Filipino (Dvorak Baybayin) and directly after </layout> paste this:
<layout> <configItem> <name>got</name> <shortDescription>goth</shortDescription> <description>Gothic</description> <languageList> <iso639Id>got</iso639Id> </languageList> </configItem> </layout>
now type
gedit /usr/share/X11/xkb/rules/base.lst
Search for German and under German paste this:
got Gothic
9. Now you should be able to fully use the Gothic keyboard.

Gothic IRC for people which want to speak or practice Gothic

Gothic version of Wikipedia?
[πΉπ½πΌπ°πΉπ³π΄πΉ]Hello, I see that before you log in into Wikipedia, you can choose a language for Wikipedia, the current languages are German, English, Esperanto, French, Spanish, Italian and Dutch. Is there some place where we can request a translation in Gothic and work on that together? Bokareis (talk) 20:21, 5 π π°ππΌπΌπ΄π½ππΈπ 2014 (UTC)
Is this correct in the main page?
[πΉπ½πΌπ°πΉπ³π΄πΉ]I read: πΌπ°πΉπ πΈπ°π½ 1000 ππ΄πΉπ³ππ, but I have learnt that in Gothic grammar in a comparison it is said: πΌπ°πΉπ 1000 ππ΄πΉπ³ππΌ, so: bigger 1000 dative + noun, instead of using the word 'than' in between. Is it also usual for Gothic to use than? Bokareis (talk) 23:07, 13 π π°ππΌπΌπ΄π½ππΈπ 2014 (UTC)

- My source (but I found another one too) is 'Elementair Gotisch', a Dutch book which teaches the basics of Gothic, written by J.W. De Vries.
The other source which I found is here: http://www.oe.eclipse.co.uk/nom/letters.htm
If you look up 'than', you will find:
than thau; "it is better for thee...than" goth thus ist...thau; Or just use the dative: "mightier than me" swinthoza mis.
This means that if you use a dative form, you can say -er without using than. Thus, saying: πΌπ°πΉπ 1000 ππ΄πΉπ³ππΌ should be correct too.
I also read in some place π²πΉπ±π°π½, when it was about a quantity of something. I know German too and this is common use in German, es gibt ein Mann hier, which literally is: 'it gives a man here', but the word 'to give' can only be used in German like this, not in English, Dutch, French, Swedish (as far as I know). I recommend to change π²πΉπ±π°π½ to π πΉππ°π½. Bokareis (talk) 22:01, 17 π π°ππΌπΌπ΄π½ππΈπ 2014 (UTC)

About the cite, you can find it in the part of the book about comparatives. This website however also explains it and is written by academics:
http://www.utexas.edu/cola/centers/lrc/eieol/gotol-4.html
The dative case is used in conjunction with a comparative to denote the standard of reference or comparison, as denoted by the Modern English 'than'. For example, swinΓΎΕ mis 'mightier than me'.
That might be easier than lending this book specially for this purpose. 84.26.254.29 18:22, 18 π π°ππΌπΌπ΄π½ππΈπ 2014 (UTC)

Some heavy changes which I will make
[πΉπ½πΌπ°πΉπ³π΄πΉ]I see that a lot of articles don't correspond to the native Gothic grammar, which was an ommitive language regarding personal pronouns with verbs. This is simply wrong so I remove all the personal pronouns which are used together with verbs.
I want to revive Gothic, but in order to do that one big source where Gothic is used, Wikipedia, should correspond to everything we know about native Gothic. What we know is that they didn't use personal pronouns in accordance with verbs, as the verb already made clear what the personal pronoun was, just as Spanish. So I will see if I can contribute by changing this in existing articles.

This is SVO I believe, Gothic was SOV so it should become something like:
π πΉπΊπΉππ΄π³πΎππ πΈππΆπ΄πΉ πΌπ°π½π°π²πΉπΆπ° πΈπ°πΏ 10000 ππ΄πΉπ³ππ π·π°π±π°π½π³
And I see: Seidon sokjan aΓΓΎΓΎΓ‘u meljan. May I ask why what 'seidon' means, is this in a special case? The plural of 'seido' is 'seidos', as used in a lot of places here.

Main page not under protection
[πΉπ½πΌπ°πΉπ³π΄πΉ]Hello, I changed the protection for the main page, it is not protected for the next two weeks. I ask you to change the mistakes there, but only the mistakes, not any other things. But if you have improvement suggestions for it, I'd be always pleased to hear them, we could discuss them on this discussion page. If any vandalism is going on at the main page, please tell me immediately by writing on my discussion page and/or change them on your own. Thank you very much for your contributions here and sorry again that I am so seldomly active here.Β :( Zylbath (talk) 11:40, 6 π°ππ°π½πΌπ΄π½ππΈπ 2014 (UTC)
Font partly changed to a very nice font!
[πΉπ½πΌπ°πΉπ³π΄πΉ]Hey you guess,
For me Wikipedia suddenly displays bold text at pages with a very nice and read-able font. Do you also experience this? Bokareis (talk) 22:51, 19 πππΏπΌπ° πΎπΉπΏπ»π΄πΉπ 2014 (UTC)
- Hmm, I am having a script similar to Ulfilas by Robert Pfeffer since quite a long time. When I came here in the first place I had a very bad font where the top of every letter was cut. But since I have the new Unicode I have it displayed quite well. It is not exactly the same as Ulfilas but kind of similar, something between Ulfilas and Skeirs. But I don't know what font it is exactly. Kevin Behrens (talk) 11:24, 20 πππΏπΌπ° πΎπΉπΏπ»π΄πΉπ 2014 (UTC)
- I think that I have this font which you are talking about, but I can't change it for some reason. Linux standardly gives you a crap-font for Gothic which makes it very difficult to read a Gothic text. It's sadogolthina or something like that. - Because in the early days this was requested and accepted, but currently so many people notknowing Gothic have made a mess of it as admins that a lot needs to be improved. -Bokareis
Please test VisualEditor in your language!
[πΉπ½πΌπ°πΉπ³π΄πΉ]It is very important to us at the Editing Department that VisualEditor works in every language, for every user.
VisualEditor's editing environment is a browser ContentEditable element. This means that your input method editor (IME) should already know how to work with it. However, to make VisualEditor correctly edit wiki pages, we have to stop browsers in lots of ways from breaking the page.
Sometimes this can interfere with IMEs. To make sure we work in your IME, we need your help: please see wikimedia.github.io/VisualEditor/demos/ve/desktop-dist.html#!pages/simple.html. This is the core system inside VisualEditor which lets you write and edit. It is different from the full editor, and some of the tools you are used to will be missing.
We're interested in particular in whether you can write text at all, what happens when you select different candidate texts, and how VisualEditor behaves in general.
More details, and some early test results, are provided here: mediawiki.org/wiki/VisualEditor/IME_Testing#What_to_test.
We would love to hear from every language, and especially languages which use IMEs, like Japanese, Korean, Indic languages, Arabic and others. Thank you for your help.
Yours,

Content Translation, the new article creation tool is now available as a beta-feature
[πΉπ½πΌπ°πΉπ³π΄πΉ]Hello, Content Translation has now been enabled as an opt-in beta feature on the Gothic Wikipedia. To start translating:
- Please enable the Beta feature in your preferences by checking the box for Content Translation.
- Visit the page Special:ContentTranslation or to your contributions page to open the tool.
- Click on the button to create a new translation.
- In the displayed dialog select the language of the original article and the article name, and the language you would like to translate to. Also add the title of the new article (or the original title will be inserted) and click on to begin. Your language preferences will be remembered for the next time.
- You will see a screen consisting of three columns. The first column contains the text of the source language and the middle column is for the translated text. Using the third column you can perform several actions such as insert source text, remove the inserted text source text, add or remove links etc.
- After you translate the article, you can publish it directly as a new page on the Gothic Wikipedia by using the publish button that appears. In case the article gets created by another user while you were translating, you will see an option to save the newly published translation under your user namespace.
- The number of published pages can be seen on the Content Translation stats page.
Since this is the first time we have installed the tool on this Wikipedia, there are chances that there may be some problems or service disruptions which we are not yet aware of. We will be monitoring the usage to check for any failures or issues, but please do let us know on the Content Translation talk page or through Phabricator if you spot any problems. For more information, please read the information available in the User Guide. Our announcement is written only in English, and we would really appreciate if this message can be translated to reach more users of this Wikipedia. Thank you. Please join the 2nd edition of the VisualEditor Translathon
[πΉπ½πΌπ°πΉπ³π΄πΉ]Hello!
I'm pleased to announce the 2nd edition of the VisualEditor Translathon.
It is a translation rally, focused on interface messages and help pages related to VisualEditor. In order to participate, you need to sign up on the Translathon page on TranslateWiki.
The top 3 contributors will each win a Wikipedia t-shirt of their choice from the Wikipedia store[1]. Translations made between July 15th and July 19th (CDT time zone) qualify[2].
If you are at Wikimania Mexico this year, you are also welcome to join a related sprint during the hackathon in Workplace 1 - Don AmΓ©rico, Thursday 16 July at 4pm (CDT) at the conference venue, so you can meet other fellow translators and get support if you need some.
Interface messages have the priority. You will need to create an account at translatewiki.net in order to work on them, if you don't have one. It is recommended to create the account ASAP, so that it can be confirmed in time.
You can also help translate documentation pages about VisualEditor on mediawiki.org. You can use your Wikipedia account to work there.
You will find instructions, links and other details on the Translathon page.
Thanks for your attention, and happy translating!

Haubidalaufs?
[πΉπ½πΌπ°πΉπ³π΄πΉ]Hello, why is the name of the haubidaseida changed to haubidalaufs? What is -laufs supposed to mean here? It ususally means "leaf", but I don't see why that should fit better than "seida" which is universally used in Gothic for an internet page and also by most other languages. The visual editor is coming to this wiki
[πΉπ½πΌπ°πΉπ³π΄πΉ]Hello. Please excuse the English. Please help translate to your language. Thank you!
Hi everybody,
My name is Erica, and I am a Community Liaison at the Wikimedia Foundation. I'm here to let you know that the visual editor is coming to editors at this Wikipedia soon. It allows people to edit Wikipedia articles as if they were using word processing software.
You don't have to wait until the deployment to test it;Β you can testΒ the visual editorΒ right now.Β To turn it on, selectΒ "π±π΄ππ°"Β in your preferences. Choose "VisualEditor" and click save. When it is enabled, you will press the "πΉπ½πΌπ°πΉπ³π΄πΉ" button to edit an article in the new software. To use the wikitext editor, you can press "πΉπ½πΌπ°πΉπ³π΄πΉ π±ππΏπ½π½π°π½".
After the deployment, everyone will automatically have the option to use either the visual editor or the current wikitext editor. For more information about how to use the visual editor, see mw:Help:VisualEditor/User guide.
More information about preparing for the visual editor is posted here.
- It's easier to add templates if you've added TemplateData information.
- Please help translate the user interface and pages about the visual editor. See the visual editor's TranslationCentral for general information. To translate the user guide, go to the MediaWiki.org page, and select "Translate this page". Your language should be available from the drop-down menu on the right. Once you've done this, you'll see the document in English, side by side with any translation work already done in your language. You can add new translations or change old translations. To translate the user interface, you need to create an account at translatewiki.net. Contact me personally if you need help with that.
- Please let us know if you find any problems. You can report issues in Phabricator, the new bug tracking system or on the central feedback page on MediaWiki.org. If you notice major issues affecting your project, please leave a note on my talk page.
Thank you, and happy editing! --Elitre (WMF) (talk) 18:29, 5 ππ°πΉπ±ππΏπ°ππ΄πΉπ 2016 (UTC)
Reminder: the visual editor is coming to this wiki soon
[πΉπ½πΌπ°πΉπ³π΄πΉ]Hello again. Please excuse the English. Please help translate to your language. Thank you!
This is a reminder that the visual editor is coming to all editors at this Wikipedia soon. As of this writing, the team is not aware of any issues specific to this language that should prevent the new software to be deployed here; therefore, please do let us know if you find any problems instead. You can report issues in Phabricator, the new bug tracking system or on the central feedback page on MediaWiki.org. There is a short guide at mediawiki.org that you can follow (as if it was a "checklist") to learn about the community work necessary to adapt the visual editor, and its referencing system in particular, to your community's needs.
If you can translate from English into this wiki's language, or know anyone who can, please follow the links below, as this language still has 0% progress in translations (0% or slightly above, for interface messages). You'll help your community get the best possible experience when it comes to interface messages and documentation related to the visual editor. After you click on any links, your language should be available from the drop-down menu on the right. Once you've selected it, you'll see the document in English side by side with any translation work already done in your language. You can add new translations or modify existing ones. The interface is hosted at https://translatewiki.net; you'll need an account if you never translated there before. The user guide lives at Mediawiki.org, for which you can use your regular Wikipedia account. You're welcome to contact me personally whenever you need help.
Thank you for your cooperation, and happy editing! --Elitre (WMF) (talk) 16:34, 26 ππ°πΉπ±ππΏπ°ππ΄πΉπ 2016 (UTC)
The visual editor will be enabled on this wiki in some days
[πΉπ½πΌπ°πΉπ³π΄πΉ]Hello again. Please excuse the English. Please help translate to your language. Thank you!
As per previous announcements earlier this year, the visual editor (VisualEditor) will be enabled at this Wikipedia in some days. It allows people to edit articles as if they were using a typical word processor. Here's a quick explanation of what is going to happen: you can find a more detailed one, with pictures, at mediawiki.org.
- What's changing?
- In the new system, you get a single edit tab which follows your preferences, and that therefore will launch the wikitext editor or the visual editor depending on which one you opened the last (Remember my last editor).
This applies to everyone who edited recently, including anonymous users. - How do I switch to the other editor then?
- Buttons on the toolbars of both editors were added months ago so that you can switch from one to the other every time you want to, without losing your changes and without having to save first.
The button, located on the right side of the toolbar, looks like square brackets ([[ ]]) in the visual editor, and like a pencil () in the wikitext editor.
- Are there other options available?
- Yes. You can choose whether you want:
- Always give me the visual editor if possible (if you temporarily switch to the wikitext editor through the button on the toolbar, the system won't remember it; also, it only applies to namespaces where the visual editor is available).
- Always give me the source editor (if you temporarily switch to the visual editor through the button on the toolbar, the system won't remember it)
- Show me both editor tabs (a system in place at multiple wikis since 2013. You are familiar with this option if you have been using the visual editor here.)
- Please note: all the users will always have the opportunity to switch to the other editor via buttons on the toolbars, for occasional edits.
- How do I set my preference?
- If you want to try or to stay in the new system: you don't need to do anything.
- If you had explicitly disabled the visual editor in the past and want to keep it disabled: you don't need to do anything.
- All the registered users have a dropdown menu in the Editing tab of their Preferences (Editing --> Editing mode:), where they can choose from. This only needs to be done once. Don't forget to saveΒ ;)
- Users with the visual editor disabled need to re-enable it if they're interested in accessing that menu!
- People who use the visual editor regularly will see a pop-up (only once after the single edit tab system is introduced), and they can choose their favorite setting there. Of course, they can change their mind at any time just like the others, and pick a different setting from their Preferences.
- Anonymous users who have used the visual editor recently will also be able to choose which editor they want to edit with.
- Reminder: all the users will always have the opportunity to switch to the other editor via buttons on the toolbars, for occasional edits.
- Final remarks
- Please spread the word about this major change in any way that you deem appropriate for this community, by linking to this announcement elsewhere, putting up a site notice, etc. Please note it will affect all the registered users at first, and after some days it will reach logged-out contributors as well if no major technical issues have arisen. Don't hesitate to ask questions, I'll be around for a while to help!
- Please do let us know about any anomalies you think you're experiencing, and do post any other feedback below. I'd like to thank everyone who works to make the transition easier for this community, and whoever will help me processing feedback in your language.
- You can learn more about optimizing the visual editor experience here by reading a guide on mediawiki.org.
Thank you! --Elitre (WMF) (talk) 08:21, 4 π π΄πΉπ½πΌπ΄π½ππΈπ 2016 (UTC)
The visual editor is now active here
[πΉπ½πΌπ°πΉπ³π΄πΉ]Hello again. This message is only available in English at this time: Please help translate to your language. Thank you!
-
In the wikitext editor, the pencil icon allows you to switch to the visual editor.
-
In the visual editor, the [[ ]] (square brackets) icon allows you to switch to the wikitext editor. Please note that the button will soon say πΌπ΄ππ΄πΉ π»π°πΏπ or πΌπ΄ππ΄πΉ πΉπ½πΌπ°πΉπ³πΉπ½πΉπ½π, due to an unrelated change.
As some of you have noticed, this Wikipedia now has the visual editor (VisualEditor) enabled for all registered users. The rollout to logged-out users will likely happen in a week or so.
For an explanation of how the editing system now works and how to choose/go back to your favorite setting, please see my previous announcement above. If you wish to change your editing system preferences now, this can be done from this link to your Preferences --> Editing --> Editing mode:.
All edits using the visual editor will be tagged with "Visual edit" in recent changes, watchlists, and page histories. To access the User Guide for the visual editor, click on the "(?)" icon in its toolbar.
Please let us know if you find any problems. You can report issues directly in Phabricator, the new bug tracking system or on at mw:VisualEditor/Feedback; by all means, feel free to also ping or contact me directly if you prefer. In case of emergency (like an unexpected bug causing widespread problems), please contact James Forrester, the product manager, at jforrester@wikimedia.org or on IRC in the #mediawiki-visualeditor channel.
Happy editing! Respectfully, Elitre (WMF) --18:55, 11 π π΄πΉπ½πΌπ΄π½ππΈπ 2016 (UTC)
PS: Are you seeing interface messages that are not in this wiki's language? Please fix this by providing translations here. Translations may be also provided for the user guide. Please contact me if you want guidance in contributing translations!
- Just a heads-up that rollout of the visual editor on this wiki is now complete. Please refer to my previous messages for details. You can read the "checklist" that was written to help communities like yours in their process of adapting the visual editor to their customs and needs. Best, Elitre (WMF) 18:22, 20 π π΄πΉπ½πΌπ΄π½ππΈπ 2016 (UTC)

[πΉπ½πΌπ°πΉπ³π΄πΉ]Right now the word π²πΏππΉππΊ is used for the Gothic language on Wikipedia. Several pages about the languages, but also Omniglot and many other sources use π²πΏππΉππΊπ° ππ°πΆπ³π° to define the language in Gothic, based on the attested Gut- in Gutthiuda (Goth-people) and the suffix -isks which normally is used for nations.
My question is which word should be used for the Gothic language? Choose one of these 3 options and add an asterisk (*) and ~ four times at the end to give your vote. You can also add an explanation and your opinion under discussion. Please add ~ four times again after your explanation or opinion. This vote will end the 28th of June.

- - I think that the name should change from Gutisk to Gutiska Razda because there is no real attestation of Gutisk and if we want to look at what would certainly be correct, Gutiska razda would be the most logical option, as this would have been understood by a Goth as the Gothic language, and not as a Gothic ethnicity for example, like in the word Gutisk.
