After installing, then what?
[πΉπ½πΌπ°πΉπ³π΄πΉ]I have installed the ULFILAS font provided by this wiki, however all gothic letters are still squares for me. Have I missed anything? Do I actually need to do anything after installing? Please be specific and detailed when giving instructions or we amateurs will not get it right...... Thank you...... --Goodj111 (talk) 16:01, 20 πππΏπΌπ° πΎπΉπΏπ»π΄πΉπ 2014 (UTC)
- First of all the best step is to keep a cool head.Β ;) Second: Many people faced the same problem like you. Gothic script seems to be quite a biggy for most computers. The new Unicode has it implemented along with a cool font. The next thing you could do is to create the page: π½πΉπΏππ°π½π³π:Goodj111/Vector.css with this text:
body.mediawiki { font-family: 'Pfeffer Mediæval', /*Skeirs, Ulfila*/ sans-serif; font-size:110%; }
. If it doesn't work properly you can change the fonts inside the code by replacing Pfeffer MediΓ¦val by Ulfila for example. Another problem is the browser. Are you using Google Chrome? Many reported that under Chrome the Gothic font isn't displayed, I have the same problem. But I am always using Firefox anyway. But I would always suggest, anyway, to use the fonts provided by the author's own site. There you can also find the keyboard layout for the font. If you install that you can easily change your keyboard anywhere on the computer by pressing CMND and Shift at the same time. If the problem still remains, give us an update. Best of luck.Β ;) Kevin Behrens (talk) 19:49, 20 πππΏπΌπ° πΎπΉπΏπ»π΄πΉπ 2014 (UTC)
Code2001
[πΉπ½πΌπ°πΉπ³π΄πΉ]Code2001's site is down and you cannot download font... aze
I have officially downloaded all the fonts presented here. They have all done one or more of the following: A. Not included gothic coding or letters, B. Included gothic coding but instead of letters gave me something resembling a 4-leaf clover, or C. Included the letters and coding but were corrupted somehow.
- Dear previous writer, I'm the author of the fonts Ulfilas, Midjungards and Skeirs, and I assume, that it's these fonts which you mean with beeing corrupted. Indeed there was a mistake in the naming table that caused an error message and that is now fixed. Now they should work!
- If you're still discovering 4-leaf clovers, try out the instructions described under "Setting Windows Up".

- Geehrter Hr. Pfeffer.

Plane1=[Plane 1 Font Face name] Plane2=[Plane 2 Font Face name] ... etc. ... (vom Link in der eng. Version) und wo das eingegegben werden sollΒ ? Ich danke Ihnen im Voraus Bogorm 19:59, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
- Lieber Herr Bogorm,
- GruΓ,
- Robert Pfeffer--π·πππΈπ±π°πΉππ·π 21:43, 28 Fruma Jiuleis 2008 (UTC)
Code2001 again
[πΉπ½πΌπ°πΉπ³π΄πΉ]Doesn't work. I just downloaded it and installed, it works in the Office, but not in the browsers. (Neither Opera nor FF or IE.) Same with Ulfilas. Works well in Office, but not in the browsers. --139.18.197.34 22:32, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
- I've had good luck with Skeirs, but not all computers support the high Unicode range used by Gothic. Gothic fonts should work on versions of XP that aren't labelled "home" - Mediacenter and Professional both should work. Windows Vista should work too. --Jacques Pirat 00:20, 12 May 2007 (UTC)
- I've got XP but can't see Gothic correctly. That's why I use Mozilla. No problems there with Gothic fonts. Regards --Manie 12:37, 20 July 2007 (UTC)
Update
[πΉπ½πΌπ°πΉπ³π΄πΉ]I've just made some modifications to all of my fonts:
- The metrics of the combining diaeresis are fixed.
- The I with diaeresis (οͺ) is now additionally at the same place as in Code2001 (it has already been included before).
The italic, bold and bold-italic styles of Skeirs are no longer supported, as most of the programmes are nevertheless able to render the typeface italic, bold etc.
I'm planning to add a Runic range to the font Skeirs.

Dear friends of the Gothic language,
It's a pleasure for me to give you notice that I've just added a Runic range to the font Skeirs.
Best Regards, π·πππΈπ±π°πΉππ·π 19:50, 12 August 2007 (UTC)
- Great! I'll try and test it out. Some other Runic fonts I've seen seem to appear too thin and small on the pages. Maybe this one will be just right. If not, well. I've got a nice new addition to my font collection. --Jacques Pirat 23:15, 12 August 2007 (UTC)
- I think I know what you mean; I've been a little surprised myself how small the runic glyphs appear, although they have exactly the same height as the capital ulfilan letters. Perhaps I'll make a new version of it. π·πππΈπ±π°πΉππ·π 19:36, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
- I haven't seen your Runic characters in action yet, but I do have a suggestion for you: It seems that you coded skeirs to have Gothic characters in the Latin section. That's good for typing on image editors that can't take in gothic characters, but it's bad when you're browsing the web. There also seems to be a problem with text not rendering well - overlapping and such. It's due to Vulcanius, I believe, but I have to check, first. --Jacques Pirat 00:36, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
- Well, at my computer neither the one nor the other problem appears. But as I originally designed Skeirs exclusively for use in browsers, I'll indeed think of removing the latin mapping. π·πππΈπ±π°πΉππ·π 08:24, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

Ladies and Gentlemen,
I've just enlarged the Runes; now the use the full heigt from the upper line down to the descender (As π or π ). (See here: http://www.robert-pfeffer.gmxhome.de/gotisch/skeirs_eng.html.)

Coming soon:
[πΉπ½πΌπ°πΉπ³π΄πΉ]π·π°πΉπ», π°π»π»!
1. In a few days I plan to publish a modification to my font Skeirs: "Skeirs Minuskel". The gothic glyphs - hitherto capital letters - will be replaced by lowercase ones, that are better in line with the latin text (comprising mostly minuscule letters, too). The hitherto existing capital letters will be deployed to the private use area. I will add an OpenType Glyph substitution programme to this font in order to let the lowercase letters be automatically replaced by capital ones at every beginning of a sentence; regrettably being a feature that has to be supported by the application in question, i.e. the browser, - and firefox doesn't yet support it properly.
2. Soon, I will publish two new fonts:
a. A very bold gothic font similar (not: identic) to the one used by the official unicode charts to demonstrate the gothic area. (This font will be especially suited to display the "Wikipedia" script nameplate on the left top of this site;-)
b. A complete new font called "Pfeffer Mediaeval" covering above all the latin range and also comprising a lot of letters needed by medievalists, BUT covering the gothic range as well. All of this font will be held in the style of a carolingian minuscle.
I will inform you when the fonts are ready.

Better and new fonts!
[πΉπ½πΌπ°πΉπ³π΄πΉ]π·π°πΉπ» π°π»π» πΎπ°π· πΎπΉπΏπ»π° πππ°πΏπ!
Since yesterday evening my newly designed homepage is online with some new fonts: Skeirs Minuskel and Silubr. Ulfilas II and Pfeffer Mediaeval will follow later. To be able to use the majuscules from the high private use area (regrettably not yet supported by firefox), I have created a few Gothic keyboard layout installation packages based on different languages as well. Feel free to download and to use the files, and if you like them (or if you find a mistake), think of making an entry into the guestbook!Β :-)

Presentation of gothic letters
[πΉπ½πΌπ°πΉπ³π΄πΉ]I'm able to see all gothic fonts. I give you the advice to get these font types: Quivira, Symbola and the Deja Vu fonts. They're all for free and Quivira includes rune characters which compares to the gothic characters. Give it a try! --Saviour1981 11:29, 10 π²ππ°ππΌπ΄π½ππΈπ 2011 (UTC)
